The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Three practices from the days of ignorance which the people of Islam will not abandon, wailing over the dead, seeking rain through the stars, and such and such."I asked Saeed, "What is the third?"He replied, "The calls of the days of ignorance, 'O family of so-and-so, O family of so-and-so.'"
Imam Ahmad (7560) narrated it from Rubai bin Ibrahim, who said, "Abdul-Rahman, meaning Ibn Ishaq, told us, from Saeed Maqburi, from Abu Hurairah," and he mentioned it.Ibn Hibban (3141) graded it sahih and narrated it via Abu Khaythama, who said, "Rubai bin Ibrahim told us," with the same wording, except that in the third instance he said, "taayeer," which means impugning lineages. It seems that at first he was uncertain and said, "the call of Jahiliyyah," then he recalled it clearly and confirmed it, saying, "taayeer." Or perhaps by his saying "the call of Jahiliyyah" he meant boasting about lineages and impugning them. Its chain of transmission is hasan because of Abdul-Rahman bin Ishaq, who is the Madani, the one who settled in Basra, hasan al-hadith, and he is not the daif Wasiti, Abu Shayba.
