The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "He is not one of us who strikes his cheeks, tears his garments, and calls out with the cries of the days of ignorance."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: ليس منا من ضرب الخدود وشق الجيوب، ودعا بدعوى الجاهلية.
Bukhari related it in the Book of Funerals (1298), and Muslim in the Book of Faith (103), both of them from the hadith of Amash, from Abdullah bin Mura, from Masruq, from Abdullah, and he mentioned it.As for what has been reported from Abu Hurairah in similar fashion, its chain contains Abdullah bin Abdul-Qudus, who is daif. Abu Dawud, Nasai, and others declared him daif, though Ibn Hibban was lenient toward him and mentioned him in Thiqat (7/48). Tabarani related it in Awsat (2143) through his path, from Amash, from Abu Salih, from Abu Hurairah, and he mentioned the hadith. Tabarani said, "No one related it from Amash except Abdullah."I say, Abdullah bin Abdul-Qudus is among those whose sole narration cannot be relied upon, and he is daif. As for the statement of Haythami in Majma (3/15), "It contains Abdullah bin Abdul-Qudus, about whom there is some discussion, though he has been deemed reliable," this rests upon Ibn Hibban's inclusion of him in Thiqat.
