The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came in to visit Abu Salama after his eyes had become fixed in death, so he closed them. Then he said, "When the soul is taken, the sight follows it."Some of his family members began to wail, so he said, "Do not pray for yourselves anything but good, for the angels say amen to whatever you say."Then he said, "O Allah, forgive Abu Salama, raise his rank among those who are rightly guided, take charge of his descendants who remain after him, forgive us and him, Lord of the worlds, make his grave spacious for him, and fill it with light for him."
دخل رسول الله ﷺ على أبي سلمة، وقد شق بصره فأغمضه، ثم قال: إن الروح إذا قبض تبعه البصر فضج ناس من أهله فقال: لا تدعوا على أنفسكم إلا بخير، فإن الملائكة يؤمنون على ما تقولون. ثم قال: اللهم اغفر لأبي سلمة، وارفع درجته في المهديين، واخلفه في عقبه في الغابرين، واغفر لنا وله يا رب العالمين، وافسح له في قبره ونور له فيه.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Funerals (920), from Zuhayr bin Harb, who said, Muawiya bin Amr narrated to us, Abu Ishaq Fazari narrated to us, from Khalid Haddan, from Abu Qilaba, from Qabisa bin Zuayb, from Umm Salama, and he related it as mentioned.He also narrated it by another route, from Ubaydullah bin Hasan, from Khalid Haddan with this same chain, similarly, except that in it he said, "and grant him a successor in his estate," and he said, "O Allah, make spacious for him in his grave," without saying "expand it for him," and he added that Khalid Haddan said, "There was a seventh supplication that I have forgotten."
