A man said to the Prophet ﷺ, "My mother died suddenly, and I think that had she been able to speak, she would have given in charity. Will she receive a reward if I give in charity on her behalf?"He replied, "Yes."
إن رجلا قال للنبي ﷺ إن أمي افتلتت نفسها، وأظنها لو تكلمت تصدقت، فهل لها أجر إن تصدقت عنها؟ قال: نعم.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Funerals (1388), and Muslim in the Book of Zakat (1004), both from the hadith of Hisham, from his father, from Ayesha, as related above, and the wording is Bukhari's.The hadith indicates that the Prophet ﷺ did not express disapproval of sudden death. His saying, "uftulitat," with the ta with a damma and the lam with a kasra, means "was snatched away," in the passive voice. It is said, "Fulan uftulita," meaning "so-and-so died suddenly."
