Aishah related that she heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, before he died, while he was leaning against her chest. She listened closely to him as he said, "O Allah, forgive me, have mercy on me, and join me with the highest companions."
أنها أخبرت أنها سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول قبل أن يموت وهو مستند إلى صدرها، وأصغت إليه وهو يقول: اللهم اغفر لي، وارحمني، وألحقني بالرفيق الأعلى.
Malik narrated it in the Book of Funerals (46) from Hisham bin Urwa, from Abbad bin Abdullah bin Zubayr, that Ayesha, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, told him that she heard it, and he related it.Muslim narrated it in the Book of the Virtues of the Companions (2444) from Qutayba bin Saeed, from Malik, and he related it.Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Military Expeditions (4440) and in the Book of the Sick (5674) through other chains from Hisham bin Urwa, with his chain of transmission, in the same manner.
