The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I marvel at Allah's decree for the believer. If good comes to him, he praises his Lord and gives thanks, and if a calamity strikes him, he praises his Lord and endures patiently. The believer is rewarded for everything, even for the morsel of food he raises to his wife's mouth."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: عجبت من قضاء الله للمؤمن إن أصابه خير حمد ربه وشكر، وإن أصابته مصيبة حمد ربه وصبر، المؤمن يؤجر في كل شيء حتى في اللقمة يرفعها إلى في امرأته.
Ahmad narrated it (1487), from Abdul-Rahman bin Mahdi and Abdul-Razzaq, who both said, Sufyan told us, from Abu Ishaq, from Ayzar bin Hurayth, from Umar bin Saad, from his father, and he mentioned something similar. Abu Ishaq is Amr bin Abdullah Sabi, who was a mudallis and had his memory become mixed up, but Shubah narrated from him, as found in Imam Ahmad (1531), Bazzar (3116, Kashf Astar), Musnad Shashi (132), and Ibn Abu Dunya in "Illness and Expiations" (224). Shubah's narration from him spares us the concern over Abu Ishaq's tadlis. Badr bin Uthman also corroborated Abu Ishaq, in a narration found in Shashi (129), and its isnad is hasan due to the discussion surrounding Umar bin Saad bin Abu Waqqas Madani, since people despised him for having been the commander of the army that killed Husayn bin Ali, though he was "truthful", as Hafiz said in Taqrib. Whoever listed him among the Companions was mistaken.
