I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about the easy reckoning. I said, "Messenger of Allah, what is the easy reckoning?"He replied, "It is when a person's sins are laid before him and then overlooked. Whoever is interrogated thoroughly in the reckoning is doomed. No servant is afflicted by a thorn or anything greater than that without Allah reducing his sins because of it."
Imam Ahmad reported it (25515) from Yunus bin Muhammad, who said, Abdul-Wahid bin Ziyad told us, who said, Abdul-Wahid bin Hamza bin Abdullah bin Zubayr told us, who said, I heard Abbad bin Abdullah bin Zubayr say, I heard the Mother of the Believers, Ayesha, and he mentioned it. Its chain is hasan because of Abdul-Wahid bin Hamza, for there is nothing wrong with him, as Ibn Main said, and Muslim narrated from him.He also reported it (24215) through another route, from Muhammad bin Ishaq, who said, Abdul-Wahid bin Hamza told me with his chain, except that he added at the beginning of the hadith, "I heard the Prophet ﷺ say during part of his prayer, 'O Allah, make my reckoning an easy reckoning.' When he finished, I said, 'O Prophet of Allah, what is the easy reckoning?'" Then he mentioned the rest of the hadith similarly.Hakim (1/57, 255) and Abu Hatim bin Habban in his Sahih (7372) extracted it from this route as well. Hakim said, "Sahih according to the criterion of Muslim, though the two of them did not narrate it with this wording. They only agreed on the hadith of Ibn Abu Mulayka, from Ayesha, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Whoever is scrutinized in the reckoning will be punished.'"I say, the hadith of Ibn Abu Mulayka from Ayesha was mentioned in the Book of Faith. As for the addition of Ibn Ishaq at the beginning of the hadith, "I heard the Prophet ﷺ say during part of his prayer, 'O Allah, make my reckoning an easy reckoning,'" no one else agreed with him on it.Likewise, Abu Amir Khazzaz added, from Ibn Abu Mulayka, at the beginning of the hadith from Ayesha, that she said, I said, "O Messenger of Allah, I know the hardest verse in the Quran." He said, "Which verse is that, Ayesha?" She said, "Allah's statement, "Whoever does evil will be recompensed for it" [Nisa 4:123]." He said, "Do you not know, Ayesha, that when a believer is afflicted by a calamity or even a thorn-prick, he is recompensed for it with his worst deed? And whoever is scrutinized will be punished." She said, "Does Allah not say, "He will be given an easy reckoning" [Inshiqaq 84:8]?" He said, "That refers to the presentation, Ayesha. Whoever is scrutinized in the reckoning will be punished."Abu Dawud reported it (3093) through various routes from Abu Amir Khazzaz, with the same wording. Abu Amir's name was Salih bin Rustum Muzani, their freedman. Ibn Main said, "Daif." And in Taqrib it says, "Truthful but prone to frequent error." Accordingly, his addition at the beginning of the hadith may well be one of his errors, since no one else agreed with him on it.
