I visited the Prophet ﷺ while he was suffering from a fever. I placed my hand on him and felt the intensity of his heat through the blanket.I said, "Messenger of Allah, how severe this is upon you!"He replied, "That is how it is with us. Our trials are doubled, and so is our reward."I asked, "Messenger of Allah, which people face the most severe trials?"He answered, "The prophets."I asked, "Messenger of Allah, then who?"He said, "Then the righteous. One of them would be tested with poverty so severe that he would find nothing but a cloak to wrap himself in, yet he would rejoice in affliction as one of you rejoices in ease."
دخلت على النبي ﷺ وهو يوعك، فوضعت يدي عليه فوجدت حره بين يدي فوق اللحاف، فقلت: يا رسول الله! ما أشدها عليك! قال: إنا كذلك يضعف لنا البلاء، ويضعف لنا الأجر. قلت: يا رسول الله! أي الناس أشد بلاء؟ قال: الأنبياء. قلت يا رسول الله! ثم من؟ قال: ثم الصالحون، إن كان أحدهم ليبتلى بالفقر حتى ما يجد أحدهم إلا العباءة يحوبها، وإن كان أحدهم ليفرح بالبلاء كما يفرح أحدكم بالرخاء.
Ibn Majah (4024) narrated it from Abdul-Rahman bin Ibrahim, who said, Ibn Abu Fudayk told us, who said, Hisham bin Saad told me, from Zayd bin Aslam, from Ata bin Yasar, from Abu Saeed Khudri, and he related it.Its chain is hasan, because of the discussion concerning Hisham bin Saad Madani. Ibn Main and Nasai declared him daif, while others considered him acceptable. Abu Zura said, "He occupies a position of truthfulness." Abu Hatim said, "His hadith is recorded but not relied upon as proof." Ajli said, "His hadith is permissible."I say, he is among the men of Muslim, and one of the most reliable narrators regarding Zayd bin Aslam. Busiri graded this chain sahih in his Zawaid, except that he added "the scholars" between "the prophets" and "the righteous," and also added, "and he is afflicted with lice until they kill him." He said, "It is sahih according to the criterion of Muslim, for he relied on Hisham bin Saad as proof."
