A man came to the Prophet ﷺ accompanied by his son. The Prophet ﷺ asked him, "Do you love him?"The man replied, "May Allah love you as I love him."Later, the boy died. The Prophet ﷺ noticed his absence and asked about him. When he learned of his death, he said, "Would it not please you to find him at every gate of Paradise, hurrying ahead to open it for you?"
أن رجلا أتى النبي ﷺ ومعه ابن له، فقال له: أتحبه؟ فقال: أحبك الله كما أحبه، فمات. ففقده فسأل عنه فقال: ما يسرك أن لا تأتى بابا من أبواب الجنة إلا وجدته عنده يسعى ويفتح لك.
Nasai (1870) narrated it from Amr bin Ali, who said, Yahya narrated to us, who said, Shuba narrated to us, who said, Abu Iyas (who is Muawiya bin Qurra) narrated from his father, and he mentioned it.Ahmad (15595) also narrated it from Waki, from Shuba with his chain, adding at the end, A man said, "Messenger of Allah, is it for him alone, or for all of us?" He said, "Rather, it is for all of you."Its chain of transmission is sahih, and Ibn Hibban (2947) and Hakim (1/384) graded it sahih. As for Haythami, he mentioned it in Majma (10/3) and said, "Nasai narrated it in abridged form. The man's statement, 'Is it for him alone,' was narrated by Ahmad, and its narrators are the narrators of the sahih."
