He came while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was delivering a sermon, and he stood in the sun. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered that he be moved into the shade.
أنه جاء ورسول الله ﷺ يخطب، فقام في الشمس، فأمر به فحول إلى الظل.
Abu Dawud (4822) narrated it from Musaddad, from Yahya bin Saeed, from Ismail, who said, Qays narrated to me, from his father, and he mentioned something similar. Its isnad is sahih, and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (2800), narrating it via the route of Yahya bin Saeed, as did Ibn Khuzayma (1453) and Hakim (4/271), both from the hadith of Ismail with his isnad in similar fashion. Ismail is Ibn Abu Khalid Ahmasi, who is trustworthy and reliable. However, Shubah narrated it from Ismail and made it a suspended narration. Imam Ahmad (15517) narrated it from Muhammad bin Jafar, who said, Shubah narrated to us, from Ismail, from Qays bin Abu Hazim, that his father came while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was delivering a sermon, and he mentioned the hadith. Qays bin Abu Hazim is a successor who was not present at the event, but whoever added and narrated it from "his father" is accepted.
