Allah used to seek out the spot near the place of the Mushaf to pray there. He mentioned that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to seek out that very spot. The distance between the pulpit and the qiblah was just enough for a sheep to pass through. In another narration, he used to seek out prayer beside the pillar near the Mushaf. Someone said to him, "I see you seeking out prayer beside this pillar."He replied, "I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ seeking out prayer beside it."
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Prayer (502), and Muslim narrated it in the Book of Prayer (509), both from the hadith of Makki bin Ibrahim, who said, "Yazid bin Abu Ubayd narrated to us, from Salama bin Akwa," and he mentioned something similar. The wording here is Muslim's.His statement, "the place of the mushaf," means the place in Masjid Nabawi where the box containing the mushaf was placed, that being the mushaf which was designated the reference copy in the time of Uthman . In that spot there was a pillar known as the Pillar of the Migrants. It stood in the middle of the noble Rawdah.Ibn Hajar said, "I found in Tarikh Madinah by Ibn Najjar that the migrants from Quraysh used to gather beside it." However, Samhudi disputed this statement and noted that it was a mistake, and that the pillar referred to, the one toward which the Prophet ﷺ used to pray, is the one to the right of a person standing in the noble prayer area, on the side of the qibla.
