Sahl bin Saad reported,

The Prophet ﷺ used to stand on Friday, when delivering the sermon, beside a wooden post that had two notches in it. The narrator said, "I think it was made of dawm wood." It stood in his prayer area, and he would lean against it.His companions said to him, "Messenger of Allah, the people have grown numerous. Could you have something made for you to stand upon when you deliver the sermon, so the people can see you?"He replied, "As you wish."Sahl said, "There was only one carpenter in Madinah at the time. So I went with that carpenter to Khafiqayn, and we cut this pulpit from a tamarisk tree."He continued, "The Prophet ﷺ then stood upon it, and the wooden post moaned. The Prophet ﷺ said, 'Are you not amazed at this post's moaning?' The people turned toward it, alarmed by its moaning, until their weeping grew loud. The Prophet ﷺ then descended and came to it, placing his hand upon it, and it became quiet. The Prophet ﷺ then ordered that it be buried beneath his pulpit, or placed within the ceiling."

عن سهل بن سعد الساعدي

أن النبي ﷺ كان يقوم يوم الجمعة إذا خطب إلى خشبة ذات فرضتين، قال: أراها من دوم، وكانت في مصلاه، فكان يتكئ إليها، فقال له أصحابه: يا رسول الله! إن الناس قد كثروا، فلو اتخذت شيئا تقوم عليه إذا خطبت، يراك الناس؟ فقال: ما شئتم، قال سهل: ولم يكن بالمدينة إلا نجار واحد، فذهبت أنا وذاك النجار إلى الخافقين فقطعنا هذا المنبر من أثلة، قال: فقام عليه النبي ﷺ، فحنت الخشبة، فقال النبي ﷺ: ألا تعجبون لحنين هذه الخشبة؟ فأقبل الناس، وفرقوا من حنينها حتى كثر بكاؤهم، فنزل النبي ﷺ حتى أتاها فوضع يده عليها فسكنت، فأمر النبي ﷺ بها فدفنت تحت منبره، أو جعلت في السقف.
