The Prophet ﷺ came out to us one day and called out three times, saying, "People, do you know what my likeness and yours is?"They replied, "Allah and His Messenger know best."He said, "My likeness and yours is only like that of a people who feared an enemy was coming upon them, so they sent out a man to scout for them. While he was doing so, he spotted the enemy and rushed back to warn them, fearing the enemy would overtake him before he could warn his people. So he waved his garment, calling out, 'People, the enemy is upon you! People, the enemy is upon you!' three times."
خرج إليناالنبي ﷺ يوما، فنادى ثلاث مرار، فقال: يا أيها الناس، تدرون ما مثلي ومثلكم؟ قالوا: الله ورسوله أعلم. قال: إنما مثلي ومثلكم مثل قوم خافوا عدوا يأتيهم، فبعثوا رجلا يتراءى لهم، فبينما هم كذلك أبصر العدو، فأقبل لينذرهم، وخشي أن يدركه العدو قبل أن ينذر قومه، فأهوى بثوبه: أيها الناس أنيتم أيها الناس أتيتم ثلاث مرار.
Ahmad narrated it (22948) from Abu Naeem, who said, Bashir narrated to us, who said, Abdullah bin Burayda narrated to me, from his father, who said, then he mentioned it.Its isnad is hasan because of Bashir, who is Ibn Muhajir Ghanawi Kufi, one of the men of Muslim, though there is disagreement about him, except that his hadith is hasan as long as nothing objectionable comes in his narration. Athram said, on the authority of Ahmad, "He narrates rejected hadith. I examined his hadiths and found that he comes up with strange things." But Ibn Main deemed him trustworthy. Nasai said, "There is no harm in him."It was narrated from Ibn Ishaq that he said, The first sermon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ delivered, as far as what has reached me, from Abu Salama bin Abdul-Rahman, and we seek refuge in Allah from saying about the Messenger of Allah ﷺ what he did not say, was that he stood among them delivering a sermon. He praised Allah and extolled Him as He deserves, then said,"Now then, O people, put forward something for yourselves, for you should know, by Allah, that one of you will surely be struck down, then will leave behind his sheep with no shepherd for them, and then his Lord will say to him, with no interpreter between them and no chamberlain to screen him from Him, 'Did not my messenger come to you and convey my message to you, and did I not give you wealth and favor you? So what did you put forward for yourself?' He will look right and left and see nothing, then he will look ahead of him and see nothing but Hell. So whoever can shield his face from the Fire, even with half a date, let him do so. And whoever cannot find that, then let him do so with a good word, for by it a good deed is rewarded tenfold, up to seven hundredfold. And peace be upon you, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings."Ibn Ishaq saw Abu Salama bin Abdul-Rahman but did not narrate from him, so he narrated it as a balagh. And Abu Salama bin Abdul-Rahman did not meet the Prophet ﷺ. Ibn Hisham mentioned this hadith in Sirah Nabawiyyah (1/500-501).He said, Then Ibn Ishaq said, Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ delivered a sermon another time, and he said,"Praise be to Allah. I praise Him and seek His help. We seek refuge in Allah from the evils of our own selves and the wickedness of our deeds. Whoever Allah guides, none can lead him astray, and whoever He leads astray, none can guide him. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, with no partner. Indeed the best speech is the Book of Allah. Successful is the one whose heart Allah has adorned with it, and whom He has brought into Islam after disbelief, so that he has chosen it over all else of the speech of men, for it is the best of speech and the most eloquent of it. Love what Allah loves. Love Allah with all your hearts. Do not grow weary of the speech of Allah and remembrance of Him, and do not let your hearts harden against it. For out of all that Allah creates, He chooses and selects. Allah has named it His choice among deeds, His chosen one among servants, and the righteous among speech, and among all that people have been given of the lawful and the unlawful. So worship Allah and do not associate anything with Him, and fear Him as He should be feared, and be truthful before Allah in the good that you speak with your mouths, and let there be love among you through the spirit of Allah. Indeed Allah becomes angry when His covenant is broken. And peace be upon you."
