We would not take our midday nap or eat lunch except after the Friday prayer. In another narration, during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
ما كنا نقيل ولا نتغدى إلا بعد الجمعة. وفي رواية: على عهد رسول الله ﷺ.
Bukhari related it in the Book of Friday (939) and Muslim in the Book of Friday (859), both from the hadith of Abdullah bin Maslama, who said, Abdul-Aziz bin Abu Hazim told us, from his father, from Sahl, and he mentioned it. Their wording is the same, except that the second narration was related by Muslim alone from Ali bin Hajar, from Abdul-Aziz, with the same chain.Bukhari mentioned in another narration (938) from Abu Ghassan, who said, Abu Hazim told me, from Sahl, who said, "There was a woman among us who would grow chard on the water channels of her farm. On Friday she would pull up the roots of the chard and put them in a pot, then add a handful of barley which she would grind, so that the chard roots became its broth. When we finished the Friday prayer, we would greet her, and she would bring that food near to us, and we would lick it up. We used to long for Friday because of that food of hers."In another narration (2349) he added, "We would not eat lunch or take a midday nap except after the Friday prayer."
