The Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever bathes on Friday and bathes well, purifies himself and purifies himself well, puts on his finest clothes, applies whatever perfume Allah has provided for him from his household's supply, then comes to the Friday prayer without engaging in idle talk and without separating two people sitting together, will be forgiven for what occurred between this Friday and the next."
Ibn Majah (1097) narrated it from Sahl bin Abu Sahl and Hawthara bin Muhammad, who both said, Yahya bin Saeed Qattan told us, from Ibn Ajlan, from Saeed Maqburi, from his father, from Abdullah bin Wadeeah, from Abu Dharr, and he related the hadith. Its isnad is hasan because of Ibn Ajlan, for he is truthful. Busiri said, "This is a sahih isnad, its men are trustworthy." Humaydi narrated it in his Musnad (1/76) from Sufyan, from Ibn Ajlan, adding to it, "and an extra three days." Ibn Khuzayma (1812) and Hakim (1/290) both graded it sahih, narrating it by this same route. Hakim then said, "This is a sahih hadith meeting the criterion of Muslim, though the two of them did not include it."On this subject there is also the report from Abu Ayub Ansari, who said, I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Whoever washes on Friday, applies perfume if he has any, wears his best clothes, then goes out to the masjid and performs a voluntary prayer there if he wishes, without disturbing anyone, then remains silent once his imam comes out until he prays, that will atone for the time between it and the next Friday." Ahmad (23571) and Tabarani (4006, 4007) narrated it through several routes from Muhammad bin Ishaq, who said, Muhammad bin Ibrahim Taymi told me, from Imran bin Abu Yahya, from Abdullah bin Kaab bin Malik, from Abu Ayub Ansari, and he related it. Its isnad contains Imran bin Abu Yahya, who is among the men listed in Taajil, and no judgment of criticism or acceptance has been transmitted concerning him, except that Ibn Hibban mentioned him among the trustworthy. Ibn Khuzayma (1775) graded this hadith sahih, narrating it through the route of Ibn Ishaq with this same wording. On this subject there are reports from a number of companions, among them Abu Darda, whose hadith was narrated by Ahmad (21729) and Tabarani (2/320, in Majma al-Zawaid), though it contains a break in transmission. Haythami said, "Ahmad and Tabarani in Al-Kabir narrated it from Harb bin Qays, from Abu Darda. But Harb never heard directly from Abu Darda." And it is just as he said.Among them also is Nubaysha Hudhali, whose hadith Ahmad narrated (20721). Haythami said, "Its men are the men of the sahih collections apart from Ahmad's teacher, who is trustworthy." I say, that is indeed so, except that it too contains a break in transmission, since it comes through the narration of Ata Khurasani from Nubaysha, and it has not been established that he actually heard from him. Mizzi mentioned a number of companions from whom Ata narrated and said, "His narration from them is disconnected."Among them also is Abu Malik Ashari, in a hadith attributed to the Prophet, "Friday atones for the time between it and the Friday before it, plus an extra three days, and that is because Allah said, "Whoever comes with a good deed will have ten times its like"." Tabarani narrated it in Al-Kabir (3/338) from Hashim, who then said, Muhammad told us, my father told me, Damdam told me, from Shurayh, from Abu Malik, and he related the hadith. Muhammad here is Ibn Ismail bin Ayyash, who is daif, and Abu Hatim said, "He never heard anything from his father." See Majma al-Zawaid (2/173–174). Shurayh here is Ibn Ubayd bin Shurayh Hadrami Himsi. Ibn Abu Hatim said in Al-Marasil, "He narrates from Abu Malik in a disconnected manner." Muhammad bin Awf was asked, did he hear from any of the companions? He said, I do not think so, for he never says in any of these narrations "I heard," though he is trustworthy.
