The first person to deliver the sermon before the prayer on the day of Eid was Marwan. A man stood up and said to him, "The prayer comes before the sermon!"Marwan replied, "That practice has been abandoned."Abu Saeed said, "As for this man, he has fulfilled his duty. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Whoever among you sees an evil, let him change it with his hand. If he cannot, then with his tongue. If he cannot, then with his heart, and that is the weakest of faith.'"
أول من بدأ بالخطبة يوم العيد قبل الصلاة مروان. فقام إليه رجل، فقال: الصلاة قبل الخطبة! فقال: قد ترك ما هنالك. فقال أبو سعيد: أما هذا فقد قضى ما عليه سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول: من رأى منكم منكرا فليغيره بيده، فإن لم يستطع فبلسانه، فإن لم يستطع فبقلبه، وذلك أضعف الإيمان.
Muslim reported it in the Book of Faith (49) via Sufyan and Shubah, both from Qays bin Muslim, from Tariq bin Shihab, who mentioned it. The wording of this hadith differs from the one before it, for it is explicit that it was Abu Saeed who objected. Nawawi offered several answers and elaborated on them at length. What I am inclined toward is that perhaps Abu Saeed's objection occurred between him and Marwan, while the other man's objection occurred openly before the people, and Abu Saeed then affirmed this man's objection and cited as evidence for it the hadith of the Prophet ﷺ.
