We were with the Prophet ﷺ, six men in all. The polytheists said to the Prophet ﷺ, "Drive these people away so they do not act boldly toward us."He said, "I was there along with Ibn Masud, a man from Huzayl, Bilal, and two other men whom I will not name."Something occurred in the heart of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that Allah willed to occur, and he spoke to himself about it. So Allah revealed, "And do not drive away those who call upon their Lord morning and evening, seeking His countenance. Not upon you is anything of their account" [Anam 6:52].
Muslim narrated it in "The Virtues of the Companions" (2413), from Abu Bakr bin Abu Shayba, who said, "Muhammad bin Abdullah Asadi narrated to us, from Israil, from Miqdam bin Shurayh, from his father, from Saad," and he related it.
