He saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ lying on his back in the mosque, with one leg crossed over the other.
أنه رأى رسول الله ﷺ مستلقيا في المسجد، واضعا إحدى رجليه على الأخرى.
Malik narrated it in "Shortening the Prayer" (87) from Ibn Shihab, from Abbad bin Tamim, from his uncle (who is Abdullah bin Zayd bin Asim), mentioning something similar. Bukhari narrated it in "Prayer" (475) from Abdullah bin Maslama, and Muslim narrated it in "Clothing and Adornment" (2100) from Yahya bin Yahya, both of them from Malik with a similar wording.Bukhari said, "And from Ibn Shihab, from Saeed bin Musayab, who said, 'Umar and Uthman used to do that.'"Hafiz said, "This is not a suspended (mualaq) narration, rather it is joined to the first chain of transmission. Abu Dawud made this explicit in his narration from Qanabi, and it is likewise so in Muwatta. Whoever claimed that it is suspended has overlooked this."I say, it is as he said.
