The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "We should leave this door for the women."Nafi said, "Ibn Umar never entered through it again until he died."
قال رسول الله ﷺ لو تركنا هذا الباب للنساء قال نافع: فلم يدخل منه ابن عمر حتى مات.
Abu Dawud reported it (462) from Abdullah bin Umar and Abu Muamar, who said, Abdul-Warith narrated to us, Ayub narrated to us, from Nafi, from Ibn Umar, and he mentioned something similar. This chain of transmission is sahih, but Abu Dawud criticized it, saying, "Others besides Abdul-Warith reported it, saying, 'Umar said,' and that is more correct." Then he reported it through the route of Ayub, from Nafi, who said, "Umar bin Khattab said," meaning the same thing, "and that is more correct." Then he reported it through the route of Bukayr, from Nafi, who said, "Umar bin Khattab used to forbid entering through the women's door."I say, Abdul-Warith is trustworthy and reliable, so his addition is accepted, as is established among the scholars of this discipline. A narration reported as stopped does not invalidate a narration reported as elevated by another transmitter. Moreover, Nafi did not meet Umar bin Khattab, so there is a break in the chain. Still, this does not prevent this hadith from being reported both as elevated and as stopped.
