Saad was wounded on the day of the Trench. A man from Quraysh named Hibban bin al-Ariqah shot him, striking him in the median vein of his arm. The Prophet ﷺ pitched a tent for him in the mosque so that he could visit him from nearby.There was also a tent in the mosque belonging to Banu Ghifar, and they were startled when blood began flowing toward them. They called out, "People of the tent, what is this coming to us from your direction?"It turned out to be Saad, whose wound was streaming blood, and he died there in his tent.
أصيب سعد يوم الخندق، رماه رجل من قريش يقال له: حبان بن العرقة رماه في الأكحل، فضرب النبي ﷺ خيمة في المسجد ليعوده من قريب. فلم يرعهم- وفي المسجد خيمة من بني غفار- إلا الدم يسيل إليهم. فقالوا: يا أهل الخيمة ما هذا الذي يأتينا من قبلكم؟ فإذا سعد يغذو جرحه دما، فمات فيها.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Prayer (463), and Muslim in the Book of Jihad (1769), both from the hadith of Ibn Numayr, from Hisham, from his father, from Ayesha, in a lengthy hadith that will be mentioned later in the Book of Jihad.As for his saying, "It did not alarm them," Khattabi said, the meaning is that they were in a state of calm until the sight of the blood startled them, and they were alarmed by it.And his saying, "yaghdhu," with the letters ghayn and dhal (both dotted), means "it flows."
