The Prophet ﷺ delayed the Isha prayer until midnight, then prayed and said, "The people have prayed and gone to sleep. As for you, you have been in prayer for as long as you waited for it."
أخر النبي صلاة العشاء إلى نصف الليل، ثم صلى ثم قال: قد صلى الناس وناموا، أما إنكم في صلاة ما انتظرتموها.
Bukhari related it in the Book of the Times of Prayer (572) from Abdul-Raheem Muharibi, who said, Zaida narrated to us, from Humayd Tawil, from Anas, and he mentioned something similar. Muslim related it in the Book of Mosques (640) through another route from Anas, in a longer account than this. See the Book of the Times of Prayer.
