Nasai (1662) narrated it from Harun bin Abdullah, who said, Abu Dawud Hafari narrated to us, from Hafs, from Humayd, from Abdullah bin Shaqiq, from Ayesha, and he mentioned it. Nasai said, "I do not know of anyone who narrated this hadith other than Abu Dawud, and he is trustworthy, but I do not think this hadith is anything but a mistake." End of quote.I say, Ibn Khuzayma also narrated it by this same route in his Sahih (978, 1238). It is not permissible to declare trustworthy narrators mistaken merely on the basis of conjecture, for Abu Dawud Hafari is Umar bin Saad bin Ubayd Hafari, a trustworthy and devout man. Ibn Main, Abu Dawud, and others confirmed his trustworthiness. He was also corroborated by Muhammad bin Saeed bin Asbahani, as found in Bayhaqi (2/305), who narrated it from Hafs, that is, Ibn Ghiyath, with the same wording.As for the statement of Ibn Hajar, "Ibn Khuzayma and Bayhaqi narrated it through the route of Muhammad bin Saeed bin Asbahani, corroborating Abu Dawud, so it becomes clear that there is no error in it," it appears that a confusion occurred on the part of Ibn Hajar. Ibn Khuzayma narrated it through the route of Abu Dawud Hafari, that is, Umar bin Saad, while it was Bayhaqi alone who narrated it through the route of Muhammad bin Saeed bin Asbahani.
