Abu Hurairah and Abu Saeed Khudri reported,
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Allah waits until the first third of the night has passed, then He descends to the lowest heaven and says, 'Is there anyone seeking forgiveness? Is there anyone repenting? Is there anyone asking? Is there anyone calling upon Me?' This continues until dawn breaks."

قال رسول الله ﷺ: إن الله يمهل حتى إذا ذهب ثلث الليل الأول نزل إلى السماء الدنيا، فيقول: هل من مستغفر؟ هل من تائب؟ هل من سائل؟ هل من داع؟ حتى ينفجر الفجر.
to the lowest heaven to the lowest heavenMuslim narrated it in Salat al-Musafirin (758) (172) through several routes from Jareer, from Mansur, from Abu Ishaq, from Aghar Abu Muslim, who related it from Abu Saeed and Abu Hurairah, and they mentioned it.He also narrated it from Shubah, from Abu Ishaq with this same chain, except that Mansur's hadith is more complete and fuller.Ibn Abu Dunya narrated it in Tahajjud (246) through the route of Abu Awana, from Abu Ishaq with his chain, except that it contains, "Allah Most High descends when the first third has passed and two-thirds of the night remain..." with the rest being the same.Imam Ahmad also narrated this version (8974), except that he said, "Allah grants respite until a third of the night has passed, then He descends and says, 'Is there anyone calling upon Me, that I may answer him? Is there anyone seeking My forgiveness, that I may forgive him?'"He also narrated it (11295) through the route of Shubah, from Abu Ishaq, matching the wording of Muslim.
