The sun was eclipsed on the day Ibrahim died, and the people said, "It has been eclipsed because of the death of Ibrahim."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The sun and the moon are two of Allah's signs. They are not eclipsed for the death or life of anyone. When you see this, call upon Allah and pray until it clears."
انكسفت الشمس يوم مات إبراهيم، فقال الناس: انكسفت لموت إبراهيم، فقال رسول الله ﷺ: إن الشمس والقمر آيتان من آيات الله، لا ينكسفان لموت أحد ولا لحياته، فإذا رأيتموها فادعوا الله، وصلوا حتى ينجلي.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of the Eclipse (1060) and in the Book of Manners (6199) in abbreviated form, and Muslim narrated it in the Book of the Eclipse (915), both of them via the route of Zaida, who said, "Ziyad bin Alaqa told us, saying, 'I heard Mughira bin Shuba,'" and he then mentioned the hadith, the wording being that of Bukhari. Bukhari also narrated it (1043) through another route from Ziyad bin Alaqa with his chain, in similar wording. Muslim did not mention the phrase, "So the people said, 'The sun has eclipsed because of the death of Ibrahim.'"I say, most of the biographers of the Prophet's life have mentioned that the death of Ibrahim bin Muhammad, son of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, took place in the tenth year after the Hijrah, though it has also been said that it occurred before that. The Prophet ﷺ was present at his death, and his eyes shed tears.
