He had been present with him at Uhud. He said, "I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he prayed for rain on our behalf. He prolonged the supplication and made many requests."He continued, "Then he turned toward the qiblah and turned his cloak around, flipping it inside out, and the people turned with him."
Imam Ahmad narrated it (16465) from Yaqub, who said, "My father narrated to us, from Ibn Ishaq, who said, 'Abdullah bin Abu Bakr narrated to me, from Abbad bin Tamim Ansari, then Mazini, from Abdullah bin Zayd bin Asim,'" and he related it.Its chain is hasan because of Muhammad bin Ishaq, for his hadith are hasan when he narrates explicitly.Abdullah bin Zayd bin Asim is the son of Kaab, Ansari, Mazini, Mazin of Ansar, Khazraji, the well-known companion, who narrated the description of the Prophet's ﷺ wudu and other matters. He is the paternal uncle of Abdullah bin Tamim bin Ghaziya Ansari, and Abdullah bin Zayd bin Asim is the maternal half-brother of his father. He is not the same as Abdullah bin Zayd bin Abd Rabbih Ansari Khazraji, for the two agree in name, in the name of the father, and in affiliation to the Ansar, then to the Khazraj, but they differ in the name of the grandfather and in the clan within the Khazraj. This hadith is evidence for the majority view that those following the imam turn their garments when the imam turns his garment. This is the view of Malik, Shafii, and Ahmad, as mentioned before. Ibn Majishun excepted women, saying, "It is not recommended in their case." Layth and Abu Yusuf said, "The imam alone turns his garment."See Fath al-Bari (498/2).
