He saw some people praying the Duha prayer and said, "They certainly know that prayer at a time other than this is more excellent. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'The prayer of those who turn often to Allah is when the young camels feel the burning sand under their feet.'"In another narration, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out to the people of Quba while they were praying and said, "The prayer of those who turn often to Allah is when the young camels feel the burning sand."
Muslim narrated it in the Book of the Traveler's Prayer (748). The first narration is via the route of Ismail bin Ulaya, from Ayub, from Qasim Shaybani, from Zayd bin Arqam, as mentioned. The second narration is via the route of Yahya bin Saeed, from Hisham bin Abu Abdullah, who said, Qasim narrated it to us, as mentioned.Qasim is Ibn Awf Shaybani. Abu Hatim said of him, "His hadith is confused, but in my view his standing is that of truthfulness." Shuba saw him and abandoned him, not narrating from him.I say, however, Muslim selected from his hadith what he got right in it. Ayub Sakhtiyani also narrated it from him, from Ibn Abu Awfa, in similar fashion. Abd bin Humayd recorded it (527) from Abu Naeem, who said, Ibn Uyayna narrated to us, from Ayub, in similar fashion. So I do not know whether this stems from his confusion, or whether he had two teachers for it.His saying "al-awwab" means the obedient one, and it has also been said to mean the one who returns to obedience. His saying "tarmudu" follows the pattern of alima yalamu (he knew, he knows). Al-ramda refers to sand whose heat has intensified.Al-fisal is the plural of fasil, referring to the young of camels once weaned from their mother and no longer nursing."By the sun" means when the hooves of the fisal, the young offspring of camels, plural of fasil, burn from the intense heat of the sand. They have used this as evidence that delaying the Duha prayer until the heat intensifies is more excellent.
