Jabir reported, "We went on a military expedition with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ against a group from Juhaynah. They fought us fiercely, and when we prayed the noon prayer, the polytheists said, 'If we had charged them all at once, we could have wiped them out.' Then Jibril informed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ of what they had said, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ mentioned it to us."He continued, "They also said, 'There will soon come upon them a prayer which is more beloved to them than their own children.' So when the time for the afternoon prayer came, we lined up in two rows, with the polytheists between us and the qiblah. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said the takbir, and we said the takbir. He bowed, and we bowed. Then he prostrated, and the first row prostrated with him. When they stood back up, the second row prostrated. Then the first row moved back and the second row moved forward, taking the place of the first.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said the takbir, and we said the takbir. He bowed, and we bowed. Then he prostrated, and the first row prostrated with him while the second row remained standing. When the second row had prostrated, they all sat together, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave the salam to them."Abu Zubayr said, "Then Jabir specified, saying, 'Just as these commanders of yours pray.'"
غزونا مع رسول الله ﷺ قوما من جهينة، فقاتلونا قتالا شديدا، فلما صلينا الظهر قال المشركون: لو ملنا عليهم ميلة لاقتطعناهم، فأخبر جبريل رسول الله ﷺ له ذلك، فذكر ذلك لنا رسول الله ﷺ قال وقالوا: إنه ستأتيهم صلاة هي أحب إليهم من الأولاد، فلما حضرت العصر، قال: صفنا صفين والمشركون بيننا وبين القبلة، قال فكبر رسول الله ﷺ، وكبرنا، وركع فركعنا، ثم سجد وسجد معه الصف الأول، فلما قاموا سجد الصف الثاني، ثم تأخر الصف الأول وتقدم الصف الثاني، فقاموا مقام الأول، فكبر رسول الله ﷺ وكبرنا، وركع فركعنا، ثم سجد وسجد معه الصف الأول، وقام الثاني، فلما سجد الصف الثاني، ثم جلسوا جميعا، سلم عليهم رسول الله ﷺ. قال أبو الزبير: ثم خص جابر أن قال: كما يصلي أمراؤكم هؤلاء.
