Recorded by Ibn Majah (1066) and Nasai (1434), and graded sahih by Ibn Khuzayma (946), Ibn Hibban (1451), and Hakim (1/258), all of them through Layth bin Saad, who said, Ibn Shihab narrated to me, from Abdullah bin Abu Bakr bin Abdul-Rahman, from Umaya bin Abdullah bin Khalid, and he related it.Hakim said, "This hadith's narrators are trustworthy people of Madinah." Its chain is hasan because of Abdullah bin Abu Bakr bin Abdul-Rahman, for no one deemed him trustworthy except Ibn Abdul-Raheem Barqi, as stated in al-Tahdheeb, along with the fact that Ibn Khuzayma, Ibn Hibban, and Hakim included his narration. For this reason Hafiz said in al-Taqreeb, "Truthful," and I think this is indeed the case. A group of people narrated from him, though Bukhari said of him, "His hadith is not sound." I say, this does not prevent grading it hasan. And Allah, the Exalted, knows best.Bayhaqi (3/136) affirmed this chain, and criticized a group of people who narrated from Ibn Shihab but did not properly establish its chain. I say, among these was Imam Malik, for he narrated it from Ibn Shihab, from a man of the family of Khalid bin Usayd, that he asked Abdullah bin Umar, and he related it. Qasr al-Salah (7).Ibn Abdul-Barr said, "This is how Malik narrates this hadith from Ibn Shihab, while the rest of Ibn Shihab's companions narrate it from Ibn Shihab, from Abdullah bin Abu Bakr bin Abdul-Rahman, from Umaya bin Abdullah bin Khalid bin Usayd, from Ibn Umar." End of quote. So Malik dropped a man from the chain, and moreover he did not name the man from the family of Khalid bin Usayd.
