The travel prayer is two rakahs, the Friday prayer is two rakahs, and the prayers of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha are two rakahs each. These are complete, not shortened, as declared by Muhammad ﷺ.
صلاة السفر ركعتان، وصلاة الجمعة ركعتان، والفطر والأضحي ركعتان، تمام غير قصر على لسان محمد ﷺ.
Ibn Majah narrated it (1064) via the route of Yazid bin Ziyad bin Abu Jaad, from Zubayd, from Abdul-Rahman bin Abu Layla, from Kaab bin Ujra, from Umar, and so he related it. Its isnad is hasan because of Yazid bin Ziyad bin Abu Jaad Ashjaee, for he is "trustworthy."Ibn Khuzayma narrated it by this route in his Sahih (1425), as did Bayhaqi (3/199). Sufyan Thawri differed from him, narrating it from Zubayd without mentioning Kaab bin Ujra between Ibn Abu Layla and Umar. Nasai narrated it by this route (1566), as did Imam Ahmad (257) and Ibn Hibban (2783). Sufyan has a stronger memory than Yazid bin Ziyad bin Abu Jaad, and for that reason Abu Hatim preferred Thawri's version. See Ilal (1381).I say, Shuba corroborated him on this in Nasai (1440), and so did Sharik bin Abdullah in Ibn Majah (1963), both of them narrating it from Zubayd without mentioning "Kaab bin Ujra" between Abdul-Rahman bin Abu Layla and Umar bin Khattab.Scholars differed over whether Abdul-Rahman bin Abu Layla heard directly from Umar bin Khattab. Nasai and others said, "He did not hear from him." But Muslim affirmed it in the introduction to his Sahih, saying, "Abdul-Rahman bin Abu Layla related with a full chain, and he retained knowledge from Umar bin Khattab... he kept the company of Ali, and he narrated a hadith from Anas bin Malik, from the Prophet ﷺ."So at times his narration is from Kaab bin Ujra, from Umar bin Khattab, and at other times directly from him. The first case is judged to be an addition inserted into an otherwise directly connected chain, or else he first heard from Kaab bin Ujra, and later it became possible for him to hear directly from Umar bin Khattab. Thus Zubayd narrated it in two ways, while each of his students narrated it in only one way. Allah knows best what is correct.
