The Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed the qunut for an entire month in the Zuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha, and Fajr prayers. At the end of every prayer, after saying, "Allah hears whoever praises Him," in the final rakah, he would invoke against certain clans of Banu Sulaym, namely Ril, Zakwan, and Usayyah, while those behind him said amen.
Abu Dawud (1443) narrated it from Abdullah bin Muawiya al-Jumahi, who said, Thabit bin Yazid narrated to us, from Hilal bin Khabab, from Ikrima, from Ibn Abbas, and he related it. Its chain is hasan because of Hilal bin Khabab, for there is disagreement about him, though he is truthful and his hadith is graded hasan, and he suffered a decline in memory toward the end of his life.Ibn Khuzayma (618) graded it sahih, and he narrated it through the route of Thabit bin Yazid from Abu Zayd al-Ahwal. Imam Ahmad (2746) narrated it from Abdul-Samad and Affan, who both said, Thabit narrated it to us in the same way, and they added, after his words "he grants safety to those who come after him", the phrase "and he sent to them, calling them to Islam, but they killed them." Ikrima said, "This is the key to the qunut."Hakim (1/225-226) erred when he said it meets the criteria of Bukhari. The correct view is that it does not meet the criteria of Bukhari, because Hilal is not among the narrators Bukhari relied upon, but rather among the narrators of the Sunan collections.
