Whenever we wished to see the Messenger of Allah ﷺ praying at night, we would see him doing so, and whenever we wished to see him sleeping, we would see him doing that as well.
ما كنا نشاء أن نرى رسول الله ﷺ في الليل مصليا إلا رأيناه، ولا نشاء أن نراه نائما إلا رأيناه.
Nasai (1628) narrated it from Ishaq bin Ibrahim, who said, "Yazid narrated to us, from Humayd, from Anas," and he mentioned it. Its isnad is sahih, and this is an abridged version. Its fuller version is in Sahih Bukhari, in the chapter on tahajjud (1141), from Humayd, that he heard Anas say, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would break his fast during part of a month until we thought he would not fast any of it, and he would fast until we thought he would not break his fast at all, and whenever you wished to see him at night praying you would see him, or sleeping you would see him."Bukhari narrated it from Abdul-Aziz bin Abdullah, who said, "Muhammad bin Jafar narrated to me, from Humayd," and he mentioned it. Bukhari said, "Sulayman and Abu Khalid Ahmar also narrated it from Humayd, following him."I say, as for the hadith of Abu Khalid Ahmar, he narrated it in the chapter on fasting (1973), and it will come later in the book on fasting.
