The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When a man wakes his wife during the night and they pray together, or each of them prays two units of prayer, they are recorded among the men and women who remember Allah often."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: إذا أيقظ الرجل أهله من الليل، فصليا، أو صلى ركعتين جميعا كتبا في الذاكرين والذاكرات.
Abu Dawud (1309) and Ibn Majah (1335) both narrated it through the route of Shayban Abu Muawiya, from Amash, from Ali bin Aqmar, from Aghar, from Abu Saeed and Abu Hurairah, and he mentioned it. Its chain of transmission is sahih. Aghar is Abu Muslim Madini, one of the men of Muslim's collection, and Shayban is Ibn Abdul-Rahman Tamimi, their freedman, Abu Muawiya Basri, one of the men of the whole community of hadith scholars.Abu Dawud said, Ibn Kathir did not report it as a raised hadith, nor did he mention Abu Hurairah, but made it the statement of Abu Saeed alone.I say, whoever raised it along with him has an addition. Ibn Hibban (2568) and Hakim (1/316) both graded it sahih, and they both narrated it through this same route, except that Hakim erred in saying it meets the criteria of the two sheikhs, because Bukhari did not narrate from Aghar, unless he meant something other than Sahih Bukhari, for Bukhari did narrate from him in Adab al-Mufrad. As for Muslim, he did report from him, so it meets the criteria of Muslim alone.It has been criticized on the grounds that it is a stopped narration, but the correct view is that it is a raised one, because whoever raises it has with him an addition of knowledge, and this addition must be accepted, since he is trustworthy.
