The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If you find nothing but the resting places of sheep and the resting places of camels, then pray in the resting places of sheep, but do not pray in the resting places of camels."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: إن لم تجدوا إلا مرابض الغنم وأعطان الإبل، فصلوا في مرابض الغنم، ولا تصلوا في أعطان الإبل.
Tirmidhi (348) and Ibn Majah (768) both narrated it via Hisham bin Hassan, from Muhammad bin Sirin, from Abu Hurairah, and the wording given is Ibn Majah's. Ibn Khuzayma (795) and Ibn Hibban (1384) graded it sahih, and they also narrated it through routes from Hisham with the same wording. Tirmidhi abridged it, saying, "Pray in the folds of sheep, and do not pray in the resting places of camels," and he said, "Hasan sahih. This is what is practiced among our companions, and Ahmad and Ishaq hold this view." He then noted its rarity, because Abu Husayn narrated it from Abu Salih from Abu Hurairah both as a raised narration (marfu) and as a stopped narration (mawquf). As for the raised version, Abu Bakr bin Ayyash narrated it from Abu Husayn with this wording, while the stopped version was narrated by Israil from Abu Husayn with this wording.I say, there is no rarity in it, for it is sahih both as raised and as stopped, and the ruling belongs to whoever adds something, provided it is also relied upon. Ibn Khuzayma (796) narrated it through Yahya bin Adam, from Abu Bakr bin Ayyash, from Abu Husayn with this wording, as a raised narration, except that "Abu Husayn" was dropped from the chain.Ibn Adi narrated it in Al-Kamil (6/2088), and Bayhaqi (2/449), both from the hadith of Kathir bin Zayd, from Walid bin Rabah, from Abu Hurairah, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Pray in the resting place of sheep, and wipe their nasal mucus, for they are among the beasts of Paradise." So he added to it that they are among the beasts of Paradise. This Kathir bin Zayd is disputed. Abu Zura said, he is truthful but has some weakness. Yaqub bin Shayba and Nasai declared him daif. Ibn Adi counted this hadith among his objectionable narrations, saying, "Kathir bin Zayd has hadiths from other than Walid bin Rabah which I did not find objectionable," meaning that his narration from Walid bin Rabah specifically contains objectionable material. He then said, "I see no harm in his hadith, and I hope that there is no harm in it," meaning if it is not his hadith from Walid bin Rabah.
