The Prophet ﷺ forbade a man to pray with his hair tied up in a bun.
أن النبي ﷺ نهي أن يصلي الرجل ورأسه معقوص.
Tabarani narrated it in Al-Kabir (23/252) from Ali bin Abdul-Aziz, who said, Abu Huzaifa narrated to us, who said, Sufyan narrated to us, from Mukhawwal bin Rashid, from Saeed Maqburi, from Abu Rafi, from Umm Salama who said, and then she mentioned it.Its chain of transmission is hasan, because of what has been said about Abu Huzaifa, who is Musa bin Masud Nahdi (with the nun vocalized as fatha) Basri. Tirmidhi and Abu Ahmad Hakim criticized him, while Ajli deemed him reliable, and Ibn Hibban listed him among the trustworthy narrators. Abu Hatim said, "He is truthful and well known," and Ibn Saad also deemed him reliable. A narrator of this standing has his hadith graded hasan when he has sahih corroborating narrations, and this is indeed such a case.As for Haythami's statement in Al-Majma (2/86) that "its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih," this is correct as far as it goes, except that Bukhari cited Abu Huzaifa only in corroborating narrations, and Haythami does not distinguish between primary narrations and corroborating ones.
