Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Prayer (370) from Abdul-Aziz bin Abdullah, who said, Ibn Abu Muwali narrated to me, from Muhammad bin Munkadir, and he mentioned something similar.In Sahih Muslim (518), from Abu Zubayr Makki, that he saw Jabir bin Abdullah praying in a single garment, wrapping himself in it, while his other garments were beside him. He said that he had seen the Messenger of Allah ﷺ do that. It was narrated through the route of Sufyan and Amr bin Harith, from Abu Zubayr.Imam Ahmad narrated it (14469) through the route of Ibn Jurayj, who said, Abu Zubayr said, Jabir bin Abdullah said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever prays in a single garment, let him wrap it around himself." He narrated it from Muhammad bin Bakr, who said, Ibn Jurayj informed us. Through this same route, Ibn Hibban also narrated it in his Sahih (2299).His saying, "let him wrap it around himself," means let him drape it over himself. The outer garment is called ataf because it falls over the two atfs of a man, which are the two sides of his neck.Something similar has also been established from Abu Hurairah, who was asked, "May a man pray in a single garment?" He said, "Yes." He was then asked, "Do you yourself do that?" He said, "Yes, I pray in a single garment, while my other garments are right there on the clothes rack."Malik narrated it in the Book of Congregational Prayer (31) from Ibn Shihab, from Saeed bin Musayab, who said that Abu Hurairah was asked, and he mentioned it.Ibn Khuzayma (758) and Ibn Hibban (2296) both narrated it through the route of Sufyan, from Zuhri, along with the marfu hadith mentioned earlier at the beginning of the chapter.
