Some men whose testimony I trust gave witness before me, and the most trustworthy of them to me was Umar, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade praying after the dawn prayer until the sun rises, and after the afternoon prayer until it sets.
شهد عندي رجال مرضيون، وأرضاهم عندي عمر، أن رسول الله ﷺ نهى عن الصلاة بعد الصبح حتى تشرق الشمس، وبعد العصر حتى تغرب.
Bukhari related it in the Book of Prayer Times (581), and Muslim in the Book of the Prayer of Travelers (826), both by way of Hisham, from Qatada, who said, Abu Aliyah told us, from Ibn Abbas, and he mentioned the same. Abu Aliyah is al-Riyahi, with a ya, and his name is Rafi in the diminutive form.As for the wording "and the most pleasing to me among them was Umar," this is the wording of Bukhari, while the wording of Muslim is, "I heard more than one of the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, among them Umar bin Khattab, and he was the most beloved to me of them."
