The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by a man who was praying after the iqamah for the dawn prayer had already been called. He said something to him, but we did not know what it was. When we finished the prayer, we gathered around the man and asked, "What did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say to you?"He replied, "He said to me, 'Is one of you about to pray the dawn prayer as four rakahs?'"This is the wording of Muslim. The wording of Bukhari is, When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished, the people crowded around him, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "The dawn prayer as four, the dawn prayer as four!"
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Adhan (663), and Muslim in the Book of Prayer of Travelers (711), both of them through Ibrahim bin Saad, from his father, from Hafs bin Asim, from Abdullah bin Malik bin Buhayna, and he narrated it.As for his statement "Abdullah bin Malik bin Buhayna," the correct form is "Abdullah bin Buhayna," for Buhayna was the daughter of Harith bin Muttalib, her actual name being Abda, and Buhayna was her nickname. She was the mother of Abdullah, not the mother of Malik. Malik is the father of Abdullah, so his full name would properly be Abdullah bin Malik ibn Qashb.Ibn Saad said, "Malik ibn Qashb came to Makkah during the pre-Islamic era, and allied himself with Banu Muttalib bin Abd Manaf, and married Buhayna, daughter of Harith bin Muttalib."According to this, it must be written "Ibn Buhayna" with the alif added, and it should carry the same grammatical case as "Abdullah," just as with "Abdullah bin Abu ibn Salul" and "Muhammad bin Ali ibn Hanafiya." See Fath al-Bari (2/149-150).As for his statement "latha bihi," it means he circled around it, and clung to it.
