The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When the evening meal is set before one of you and the prayer is called, begin with the meal, and do not rush until you have finished it."When food was placed before Ibn Umar and the prayer was called, he would not go to it until he had finished, even though he could hear the imam's recitation.
قال رسول الله ﷺ: إذا وضع عشاء أحدكم، وأقيمت الصلاة فابدأوا بالعشاء، ولا يعجل حتى يفرغ منه. وكان ابن عمر يوضع له الطعام، وتقام الصلاة، فلا يأتيها حتى يفرغ، وإنه ليسمع قراءة الإمام.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Adhan (673), and Muslim in the Book of Mosques (559), both of them via Abu Usama, from Ubaydullah, from Nafi, from Ibn Umar, as mentioned. The wording given is Bukhari's, while Muslim's wording is, "and let him not hurry until he finishes it."
