He gave the call to prayer on a cold and windy night, then announced, "Pray in your dwellings."He then said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to order the muezzin, on a cold or rainy night, to announce, 'Pray in your dwellings.'"
أنه أذن بالصلاة في ليلة ذات برد وريح فقال: ألا صلوا في الرحال، ثم قال: إن رسول الله ﷺ كان يأمر بالمؤذن إذا كانت ليلة باردة ذات مطر يقول: ألا صلوا في الرحال.
Malik narrated it in the Book of Prayer (10) from Nafi from Ibn Umar, as mentioned. Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Adhan (666), and Muslim in the Book of Prayer of Travelers (697), both through the route of Malik with the same wording. Both of them, Bukhari (632) and Muslim, also narrated from Ubaydullah bin Umar, who said, Nafi told me, saying, Ibn Umar gave the adhan on a cold night at Dajnan, then said, "Pray in your dwellings." He informed us that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to command a muezzin to give the adhan, then say right after it, "Pray in your dwellings," on a cold night, or a rainy one, while traveling.Regarding his saying, "at Dajnan," it is pronounced with a fatha on the dotted dad, followed by a jim, then a nun, on the pattern of falan, and it is indeclinable. The author of Sahih (referring to the dictionary) said it is a mountain in the vicinity of Makkah. Others said it is a mountain between Makkah and Madinah.
