The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "By the One in whose hand my soul is! I have considered ordering firewood to be gathered, then ordering the call to prayer to be made, then ordering a man to lead the people in prayer, while I go to Some men and burn their houses down upon them. By the One in whose hand my soul is! If any of them knew he would find a meaty bone or two good sheep's trotters, he would attend the night prayer."
أن رسول الله ﷺ قال: والذي نفسي بيده! لقد هممت أن آمر بحطب فيحطب، ثم آمر بالصلاة فيؤذن لها، ثم آمر رجلا فيؤم الناس، ثم أخالف إلى رجال، فأحرق عليهم بيوتهم، والذي نفسي بيده! لو يعلم أحدكم أنه يجد عظما سمينا، أو مرماتين حسنتين لشهد العشاء.
Malik related it in the chapter on congregational prayer (3), from Abu Zinad, from Araj, from Abu Hurairah, and mentioned it as above.Bukhari related it in the chapter on adhan (644), from Abdullah bin Yusuf, who said, Malik informed us of it. Bukhari gave this hadith the heading, "Chapter on the obligation of congregational prayer."Muslim related it in the chapter on mosques (651), from Amr Naqid, who said, Sufyan bin Uyayna narrated to us, from Abu Zinad, with the same chain, and he added at the beginning of the hadith, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ missed some people at some of the prayers," and then he mentioned the hadith, but he did not mention the two marmatayn.The marmah is what lies between the two cleft parts of a sheep's hoof. Abu Ubayd said, I do not know the reasoning behind it, except that this is how it is explained. Ibn Arabi said, the marmah is the arrow that is shot, Sharh al-Sunnah (3/345).
