The Prophet ﷺ led a prayer and recited in it, but became confused in his recitation. When he finished, he said to Ubayy, "Did you pray with us?"Ubayy replied, "Yes."The Prophet ﷺ asked, "Then what prevented you?"
أن النبي ﷺ صلى صلاة فقرأ فيها، فلبس عليه، فلما انصرف قال لأبي: صليت معنا؟ قال: نعم. قال: فما منعك.
Abu Dawud (907) narrated it from Yazid bin Muhammad Dimashqi, who said, Hisham bin Ismail told us, Muhammad bin Shuayb told us, Abdullah bin Ala bin Zabr informed us, from Salim bin Abdullah, from Abdullah bin Umar, and he mentioned it. Its chain is sahih.Ibn Hibban also narrated it in his Sahih (2242) by way of Hisham bin Ammar, who said, Muhammad bin Shuayb bin Shabur told us it, and in it, "What kept you from opening it for me."On this subject there is also a report from Ibn Abbas, who said, the Messenger of Allah hesitated over a verse during the Fajr prayer. When he finished the prayer, he looked at the faces of the people and said, "Did Ubayy bin Kaab not pray with you?" They said, No. He said, so the people realized that he had only asked about him so that he might prompt him. Bazzar narrated it (Kashf Astar, 479), and in it is Qays bin Rabi, who is daif.Likewise what Bazzar narrated from the hadith of Burayda Aslami, in which is Yahya bin Kathir, who is daif. He is the companion of Basri, Abu Nadr. Ibn Main, Abu Hatim, Abu Zura, Nasai, and Daraqutni all declared him daif. Aqeeli said, his hadith is munkar. Saji said, he is known for Shiism, his hadith is extremely daif and abandoned, he narrates fabricated hadiths from trustworthy narrators.I say, he is different from Yahya bin Yazid Kahili, who was mentioned earlier.Likewise what Imam Ahmad narrated (21218) from Ubayy bin Kaab, in which is Jarud bin Abu Sabra, who did not hear from Ubayy.Likewise what Tabarani narrated in Awsat (6412), in which is Sulayman bin Arqam, who is daif. See Majma al-Zawaid (2/171-172), edited by Muhammad Abdul-Qadir.As for what was narrated from Ali bin Abu Talib
, who said, the Messenger of Allah
said, "Ali, do not prompt the imam during the prayer," it is extremely daif. Abu Dawud narrated it (908), saying, Abdul-Wahhab bin Najda told us, Muhammad bin Yusuf Firyabi told us, from Yunus bin Abu Ishaq, from Abu Ishaq, from Harith, from Ali bin Abu Talib, who mentioned something similar.Abu Dawud said, Abu Ishaq heard only four hadiths from Harith, and this is not one of them. End of quote.Munziri said, Abu Ishaq is Amr bin Abdullah Sabi, one of the trustworthy Tabiin. Harith is Abu Zuhayr Harith bin Abdullah, also said to be Ibn Ubayd Hamdani Kufi Awar. More than one of the imams said, he is a liar. End of quote.Khattabi said, its chain to Ali is good, but the narrator of this hadith of Ali is Harith, and there is criticism of him. Then he mentioned Abu Dawud's statement, and then said, it has also been narrated from Ali himself that he said, "If the imam asks you for feeding, feed him," by way of Abu Abdul-Rahman Sulami, meaning that if he stumbles in his recitation, they should prompt him.I say, the hadith of Ali was narrated by Ahmad bin Mani. See Ithaf (437).Then he said, there is disagreement about this matter. It has been narrated from Uthman bin Affan and Ibn Umar
that they saw no harm in it, and this is the view of Ataa, Hasan, Ibn Sirin, Malik, Shafii, Ahmad bin Hanbal, and Ishaq. It has been narrated from Ibn Masud that he disliked it, Shaybi disliked it, and Sufyan Thawri used to dislike it. Abu Hanifa said, if the imam gets stuck and is prompted, then this counts as speech during the prayer. End of quote.
