He was with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ one day along with a group of his companions, and among what he said to them was, "Part of obedience to Allah is that you obey me, and part of obedience to me is that you obey your leaders. If they pray sitting, then all of you pray sitting."
Imam Ahmad (5679), Abu Yaala (5450), and Tabarani in al-Kabir (13278) all narrated it through the route of Uqbah bin Abu Sahba, who said, Salim bin Abdullah told us that Abdullah bin Umar told him, and he related the hadith. Its isnad is sahih. Uqbah bin Abu Sahba is among the men listed in Taajil. Ibn Main and others deemed him reliable, and Abu Hatim said, "His standing is one of truthfulness." Ibn Hibban mentioned him among the trustworthy narrators, and included the hadith in his Sahih (2109), transmitting Ibn Main's assessment of Uqbah bin Abu Sahba as reliable.Hafiz Haythami said in Majma al-Zawaid (2342), "Ahmad and Tabarani in al-Kabir narrated it, and its narrators are trustworthy."
