A man said, "By Allah, Messenger of Allah, I hold back from the morning prayer because of so-and-so, on account of how long he prolongs it for us."I never saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ more angry while delivering an admonition than he was that day. Then he said, "Some of you drive people away. Whoever among you leads the people in prayer, let him keep it brief, for among them are the weak, the elderly, and those with pressing needs."
أن رجلا قال: والله يا رسول الله إني لأتأخر عن صلاة الغداة من أجل فلان مما يطيل بنا، فما رأيت رسول الله ﷺ في موعظة أشد غضبا منه يومئذ، ثم قال: إن منكم منفرين، فأيكم ما صلى بالناس فليتجوز، فإن فيهم الضعيف والكبير وذا الحاجة.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Adhan (702), and Muslim in the Book of Prayer (466), both through the route of Ismail bin Abu Khalid, who said, "I heard Qais say, 'Abu Masud Ansari informed me,'" and he related the hadith. The wording given here is that of Bukhari, and the wording of Muslim is similar.
