The Prophet ﷺ said, "When three are together, one of them should lead the prayer, and the most deserving of leading is the one who recites the Quran best."

عن أبي سعيد الخدري قال
قال النبي ﷺ: إذا كانوا ثلاثة فليؤمهم أحدهم. أحقهم بالإمامة أقرؤهم.
Muslim narrated it in "The Book of Mosques" (672) from Qutayba bin Saeed, who said, Abu Awana told us, from Qatada, from Abu Nadra, from Abu Saeed Khudri, who mentioned something similar.
