The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There are two qualities which no Muslim man keeps count of without entering Paradise. They are simple, but few are those who practice them. After every prayer, one glorifies Allah ten times, praises Him ten times, and magnifies Him ten times."I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ counting them on his hand. He said, "That makes one hundred and fifty on the tongue, and one thousand five hundred on the scale. And when you lie down to sleep, glorify Him, magnify Him, and praise Him one hundred times. That makes one hundred on the tongue, and one thousand on the scale. Which of you commits two thousand five hundred sins in a day and a night?"They asked, "How could anyone fail to keep count of them?"He replied, "Satan comes to one of you while he is in his prayer and says, 'Remember such and such, remember such and such,' until he leaves his prayer without doing it. And he comes to him while he is in his bed, putting him to sleep until he sleeps without saying it."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: خلتان لا يحصيهما رجل مسلم إلا دخل الجنة، ألا وهما يسير، ومن يعمل بهما قليل، يسبح الله في دبر كل صلاة عشرا، ويحمده عشرا، ويكبره عشرا، قال: فأنا رأيت رسول الله ﷺ يعقدها بيده، قال، فتلك خمسون ومائة باللسان، وألف وخمسمائة في الميزان، وإذا أخذت مضجعك تسبحه وتكبره وتحمده مائة فتلك مائة باللسان، وألف في الميزان، فأيكم يعمل في اليوم والليلة ألفين وخمسمائة سيئة؟ قالوا: وكيف لا يحصيهما، قال: يأتي أحدكم الشيطان وهو في صلاته فيقول: اذكر كذا اذكر كذا، حتى ينتقل فلعله لا يفعل، ويأتيه وهو في مضجعه، فلا يزال ينومه حتى ينام.
Tirmidhi (3410) narrated it, and this is his wording, through the route of Ismail bin Ulaya. Ibn Majah (926) paired Ismail with Muhammad bin Fudayl, Abu Yahya Taymi, and Ibn Ajlah. Nasai (1348) narrated it through the route of Hammad. Abu Dawud narrated it (1502) through the route of Amash in abbreviated form, and (5065) through the route of Shubah at length. All of them narrated from Ata bin Saaib, from his father, from Abdullah bin Amr, who related it.Tirmidhi said, "Hasan sahih. Shubah and Thawri narrated this hadith from this Ata bin Saaib. And Amash narrated this hadith from Ata bin Saaib in abbreviated form." End of quote.Its chain of transmission is sahih. Ata bin Saaib is trustworthy, the leading scholars affirmed his trustworthiness, except that his memory became confused toward the end of his life. However, the narrations of Hammad bin Salama, Shubah, Thawri, and Amash from him predate that confusion.As for his statement, "that makes one hundred and fifty," this means three tens, that is thirty, said five times in a day and night, which comes to one hundred and fifty.And his statement, "one thousand five hundred in the balance," this is because every good deed is multiplied tenfold [150 × 10 = 1500], and likewise for what follows it.
