The Messenger of Allah ﷺ led his companions in prayer, then sat with a group of them. A man came in and stood to pray, but he kept rushing through his bowing and pecking in his prostration. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Do you see this man? Whoever dies in this state has died upon something other than the religion of Muhammad. He pecks at his prayer just as a crow pecks at blood. The example of one who rushes through bowing and pecks in his prostration is like a starving man who eats only one or two dates. What good will they do him? Perform ablution thoroughly. Woe to the heels from the Fire. Complete the bowing and prostration."Abu Salih said, I asked Abu Abdullah al-Ashari, "Who narrated this hadith to you?"He replied, "The commanders of the armies, Amr bin As, Khalid bin Walid, Yazid bin Abu Sufyan, and Shurahbil bin Hasanah. All of them heard it from the Prophet ﷺ."
Ibn Khuzayma (665) narrated it from Ismail bin Ishaq, who said, Safwan bin Salih narrated to us, Walid bin Muslim narrated to us, Shayba bin Ahnaf Uzai narrated to us, Abu Salam Aswad narrated to us, Abu Salih Ashari narrated to us, from Abu Abdullah Ashari, and he mentioned it. Bayhaqi (2/89) narrated it from the hadith of Uthman bin Saeed Darimi, who said, Safwan bin Salih Dimashqi narrated to us, with his chain, in the same manner. Abu Yaala (7184) and Tabarani in Kabir (4/115–116) narrated it through two other chains from Walid bin Muslim with his chain, in the same manner. Haythami mentioned it in Majma (2/121) and attributed it to Tabarani in Kabir and to Abu Yaala, saying, its chain is hasan.I say, it is as he said, for it contains Shayba bin Ahnaf Uzai. A group narrated from him, among them Walid bin Muslim, who is a mudallis, but he explicitly stated that he heard directly. Abu Hasan bin Sumay mentioned him in the fifth tabaqah, and Abu Zura Dimashqi said, in mentioning a group of elders of age and knowledge, and among them he mentioned Shayba bin Ahnaf. Ibn Hibban mentioned him in Thiqat (6/445). Dhahabi said in Kashif, "declared trustworthy," and one like him, his hadith is graded hasan. As for Ibn Hajar, he placed him in the rank of "acceptable."As for the statement of Ibn Turkmani in Jawhar Naqi, "the author of Tahzib Kamal mentioned that Duhaym said, Walid bin Muslim did not hear anything at all from the hadith of Shayba bin Ahnaf," this contains a distortion. For in Tahzib Kamal it states, Abu Hatim said, I heard Duhaym saying, "I did not hear from Walid bin Muslim anything from the hadith of Shayba bin Ahnaf." And Uthman bin Saeed Darimi said, on the authority of Duhaym, "Walid used to narrate from him, I have not heard anyone who recognizes him."These two transmissions differ from what Ibn Turkmani conveyed from Duhaym, for neither of them contains a denial that Walid bin Muslim heard from Shayba bin Ahnaf. Rather, Duhaym denied for himself that he heard anything from Walid bin Muslim that he narrated from Shayba bin Ahnaf. So if he denied this of himself, it has nevertheless been established from others who narrated from him, as you have seen, and it contains an explicit statement from Walid that he heard directly, so it is not permissible to deny his truthfulness. Rather, Duhaym confirmed, in the narration of Uthman bin Saeed Darimi, that Walid used to narrate from him, except that he denied having knowledge of who he was. So it was necessary to draw attention to this.
