He said, "Let me observe how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performs his prayer."He said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up and faced the qiblah, then said the takbir, raising his hands until they were level with his ears. Then he grasped his left hand with his right. When he wanted to bow, he raised them in the same way, then placed his hands on his knees. When he raised his head from the bowing, he raised them in the same manner. When he prostrated, he placed his head on the ground between his hands.Then he sat, spreading out his left foot beneath him, placing his left hand on his left thigh, and resting the edge of his right elbow on his right thigh. He folded two fingers and formed a ring, and I saw him doing it like this. Bishr formed a ring with his thumb and middle finger and pointed with his index finger.
قلت: لأنظرن إلى صلاة رسول الله ﷺ كيف يصلي، قال: فقام رسول الله ﷺ فاستقبل القبلة، فكبر فرفع يديه حتى حاذتا أذنيه، ثم أخذ شماله بيمينه، فلما أراد أن يركع رفعهما مثل ذلك، ثم وضع يديه على ركبتيه، فلما رفع رأسه من الركوع رفعهما مثل ذلك، فلما سجد وضع رأسه بذلك المنزل من بين يديه، ثم جلس فافترش رجله اليسرى، ووضع يده اليسرى على فخذه اليسرى، وحد مرفقه الأيمن على فخذه اليمنى، وقبض ثنتين وحلق حلقة، ورأيته يقول هكذا، وحلق بشر الإبهام والوسطى وأشار بالسبابة.
Abu Dawud (726) narrated it, and this is his wording, as did Nasai (1267) and Ibn Majah (867), all of them through the route of Bishr bin Mufaddal, who said, "Asim bin Kulayb narrated to us, from his father, from Waail bin Hajar," and he related it. The full sourcing will come later in the chapter on placing the right hand over the left. Imam Ahmad (18850) narrated it from Yunus bin Muhammad, "Abdul-Wahid narrated to us, Asim bin Kulayb narrated to us," with the same account. Ibn Jawzi also transmitted it through this route in Tahqiq (566) and said, "It has not been established from any of the companions that he did not raise his hands, and Ibn Umar, whenever he saw a man not raising his hands every time he lowered and raised them, would pelt him with pebbles until he raised them."
