When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said the opening takbir for prayer, he would raise his hands level with his shoulders. He would do the same when he bowed, and the same when he rose from bowing, and the same when he stood up after the first two rakats.
Abu Dawud narrated it (738), he said, "Abdul-Malik bin Shuayb bin Layth told us, my father told me, from my grandfather, from Yahya bin Ayub, from Abdul-Malik bin Abdul-Aziz bin Jurayj, from Ibn Shihab, from Abu Bakr bin Abdul-Rahman bin Harith bin Hisham, from Abu Hurairah," and he mentioned the hadith. Its isnad is sahih, and Ibn Khuzayma also graded it sahih, recording it in his Sahih (694) via Abu Zuhayr Abdul-Majid bin Ibrahim Misri, who said, "Shuayb narrated it to us," with the same chain, adding in it, "He did not do that when he raised his head from sujud."He said, Uthman bin Hakam Judhami also narrated it, saying, "Ibn Jurayj told me that Ibn Shihab informed him with this same isnad, likewise," and he said, "He said the takbir and raised his hands level with his shoulders." Abu Yaman Yaseen bin Abu Zurara Misri Qatbani narrated it to me, from Uthman bin Hakam Judhami. He said, "I heard Yunus say, 'The first person to bring to Egypt the knowledge of Ibn Jurayj or the knowledge of Malik was Uthman bin Hakam Judhami.'"He said, "I heard Ahmad bin Abdullah bin Abdul-Raheem Barqi say, 'Ibn Abu Maryam told us, Uthman bin Hakam Judhami told me, and he was among the best of people.'" End of quote.Ibn Majah also narrated it (860) via Ismail bin Ayyash, from Salih bin Kaysan, from Abdul-Rahman Araj, from Abu Hurairah, who said, "I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ raise his hands in prayer level with his shoulders when he began the prayer, when he bowed, and when he prostrated."Ismail bin Ayyash Himsi is truthful in what he narrates from the people of his own region, but he confuses things when narrating from others, as stated in Taqrib. I say, although Salih bin Kaysan was Hijazi and not from Ismail's own region, Ismail bin Ayyash did not confuse anything in this narration, since others corroborated him.
