Whenever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ heard the muezzin give the testimony of faith, he would say, "And so do I, and so do I."
أن رسول الله ﷺ كان إذا سمع المؤذن يتشهد قال: وأنا وأنا.
Abu Dawud (526) narrated it, saying, Ibrahim bin Mihdi told us, Ali bin Mushir told us, from Hisham bin Urwa, from his father, from Ayesha, and he related the hadith. Its chain is hasan because of Ibrahim bin Mihdi Masissi Baghdadi, who is among those whom Abu Hatim deemed reliable along with Ibn Hibban.Ibn Hibban (1683) and Hakim (1/204) then narrated it from another route, through Hisham bin Urwa, in the same manner, which provides a strong corroboration for Ibrahim bin Mihdi.Imam Ahmad (24933) narrated it from Affan, who said, Abdul-Wahid bin Ziyad told us, who said, Amr bin Maymun bin Mihran told me, who said, my father informed me, who said, Ayesha said, "When the Messenger of Allah heard the caller to prayer, he would say, 'I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.'"There has been disagreement as to whether Maymun bin Mihran actually heard from Ayesha, but the correct view is that he did hear from her, since he was born in the year seventeen and died in the year one hundred and sixteen. Alai did not mention in Jami Tahsil that he had not met Ayesha, and it is stated explicitly in Tahdhib that he narrated from Abu Hurairah, Ayesha, Ibn Abbas, Ibn Umar, Ibn Zubayr, Safiya bint Shayba, and Umm Darda among the companions.
