We waited for the Prophet ﷺ one night until about halfway through the night had passed, then he came and led us in prayer. Afterwards, he addressed us and said, "The people have prayed and gone to sleep, but you have remained in prayer as long as you were waiting for the prayer."
نظرنا النبي ﷺ ذات ليلة حتى كان شطر الليل يبلغه، فجاء فصلى لنا، ثم خطبنا فقال: ألا إن الناس قد صلوا ثم رقدوا، وإنكم لم تزالوا في صلاة ما انتظرتم الصلاة.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Prayer Times (600) via Qurra bin Khalid, who said, "We waited for Hasan, and he was slow in coming to us, until we drew near to the time of his standing up, then he came and said, 'These neighbors of ours invited us,'" then he said, "Anas said," and he related the hadith. Hasan said, "The people will always be in good state as long as they wait for good." Qurra said, "It is from the hadith of Anas, from the Prophet ﷺ," end of narration.Qurra's statement, "It is the hadith of Anas," refers to the last statement which Hasan did not attribute directly to the Prophet, namely his saying, "The people will always be in good state..." Qurra intended to confirm for the people that this too was attributed to the Prophet.His saying, "waratha," means he was slow, and the "waw" indicates a circumstantial clause.Muslim narrated it in the Book of Mosques (640) through other routes.
